E15 FIP Global Conference on Education session

Thursday 1 September 2016
09:00-12:00
Hilton Buenos Aires : Pacifico B, 3 hours

Organised by FIPEd

Introduction

The Global Conference on Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Education will be the first Conference of its kind, as it aims to reach agreement on how pharmaceutical workforce competence can be assured through education.

It is organised by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) with the purpose to meet the principles accepted in 2012 through the Centennial Declaration.

There remain challenges in workforce development, competence and capacity, which are critical factors to address in order to ensure that societal needs are being achieved. A globally shared Vision has to be established to fully accept responsibility and accountability for improving global health.

The Global Conference on Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Education aims to create dialogue and consensus among policy makers, education leaders and regulators, in order to set the future milestones for education and workforce development activities and projects, and leadership influence for education and training of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists. This session will aim to outline the drivers for enhanced improvement in professional education, and to validate these drivers through engagement with delegates.

Learning objectives

At the conclusion of this knowledge-based session, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the education and developmental needs of a competent pharmacy workforce, including initial education and training for pharmacists
  2. Describe continuing education and development - the concept of a continuously competent workforce is of central interest for professional leadership bodies and professional stakeholders
  3. Outline a draft roadmap that can facilitate the implementation of a Global Vision for workforce development; this session will set out the draft for this Vision together with an outline of mechanisms and tools that will be of use in working towards alignment with national workforce policies and aspirations
  4. Describe appropriate strategic tools to support and develop quality driven education at national levels.
