AIM members, Deans and academic leaders from around the world will discuss and debate how pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences educational institutions are transforming their programmes towards achieving better health outcomes. The discussions and debate during this one and half day Forum will focus on areas of critical importance in the role of pharmacy educational institutions, focussing on educating the pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences workforce of the future. The programming for the 2016 AIM Deans Forum is based on input from attendees of the 2015 AIM Deans Forum in Dusseldorf.

Part I - Leadership – The academic perspective

Leadership development is critical for all levels of the profession, from undergraduate students, early years’ practitioners, to the most advanced practitioners, and it plays an important role in advocating for, and advancing the profession. This session will discuss the dean’s profile in the development of leadership. The context for this discussion will be educational, career development and contain aspects of team building activities. The importance of strong leadership in the pharmacy profession will be explored including how to both develop and attract leaders to the profession, for better outcomes in collaborative practice.

Part II – Interprofessional education

This session will discuss models of programmes to prepare graduates to practice in team-based care environments. It will also provide an overview of collaborations between pharmacy schools and other healthcare professional schools to address the local and national needs. Emphasis will be on the variety of roles and maximising the use of resources.
