Introduction
Beyond the practice any pharmacist conducts in his or her primary role, there are endless opportunities to be involved in humanitarian/voluntary/charitable efforts. These activities may be within or without domestic borders, may be short-term or long-term, and may be responsive to a crisis situation or long-term health system opportunities. This session is intended to highlight the personal engagement of one or two pharmacists who have seen a pressing need and responded to it.
Learning objectives
At the conclusion of this application-based session, participants will be able to:
- Research the role of the pharmacist in emergency situations
- Evaluate the requirement for unique policies and procedures in these situations
- Plan the framework required for pharmacist involvement and collaboration in a humanitarian effort
- Advocate how pharmacists may become involved in humanitarian projects.
